Galaxy Z Fold 7: Samsung Teases Ultra-Thin Foldable as Next Evolution in Design
Samsung has officially begun teasing its next-generation foldable smartphone, hinting at a slimmer and more refined design under the banner “Meet the Next Chapter of Ultra.” Accompanied by an animated silhouette of a foldable device, the announcement strongly suggests that the Galaxy Z Fold 7 will continue the company’s trend toward sleeker form factors—first initiated with the Galaxy S25 Edge.
A New “Ultra” Experience—Without the Name
In its announcement, Samsung emphasized that the upcoming foldable will embody an “Ultra” experience. The company stated that it has spent years listening to user feedback, focusing on delivering larger displays, better cameras, and innovative tools for creation and connectivity. According to Samsung, users now expect more than just a list of upgraded specs—they want a premium, all-encompassing experience in a compact device.
The new foldable is said to feature “industry-leading hardware, performance, and artificial intelligence” packed into a foldable design. While the device is positioned as delivering a Galaxy “Ultra”-level experience, Samsung insider Max Jambor claims it won’t actually carry the “Ultra” label in its name. Still, the company continues to apply the Ultra branding to its flagship smartphones, smartwatches, and laptops.
Thinner Than Ever Before
Samsung has yet to release official dimensions, but an animation in the teaser suggests a much slimmer design than previous foldables. If recent leaks from OnLeaks and Android Headlines are accurate, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 could measure just 4.5 mm when unfolded. For comparison, the current Galaxy Z Fold 6 is 5.6 mm thick, while competitors like the Honor Magic V3 and Oppo Find N5 are 4.4 mm and 4.2 mm thick, respectively. This would bring Samsung closer than ever to matching or even surpassing its rivals in the race for the thinnest foldable on the market.
Lighter and Smarter
Weight reduction also seems to be a major goal. While the current Galaxy Z Fold 6 weighs 239 grams, Samsung’s upcoming model is expected to shed a few grams. In contrast, the soon-to-be-released Vivo X Fold 5 is rumored to weigh just 219 grams—similar to a standard smartphone. As the market shifts toward more lightweight foldables, Samsung appears to be preparing to stay competitive.
Camera Improvements in Focus
Another highlight in Samsung’s teaser is a promise of a more powerful rear camera system. Historically, foldable phones have struggled in this area due to space constraints that limit the inclusion of large image sensors. Samsung now appears determined to address this limitation, signaling its intent to boost photo and video performance without sacrificing design.
With expectations building and competition heating up, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is shaping up to be one of the most significant foldable releases of the year. Whether it’s through improved AI integration, cutting-edge camera technology, or a dramatically thinner profile, Samsung seems ready to redefine what an “Ultra” foldable can deliver—even if it doesn’t say so in the name.
