Samsung Halts Android 15 Update for Flagship Phones Due to Critical Bug
Samsung has temporarily suspended the rollout of Android 15 for its latest flagship smartphones following reports of a serious issue affecting users in South Korea. The update, which was based on One UI 7 and built on Android 15, had been released for the Galaxy S24 lineup, the Galaxy Z Fold 6, and the Galaxy Z Flip 6 before being abruptly pulled.
According to Android Authority, Samsung has not provided an official explanation for the sudden pause. However, prominent leakers suggest that the suspension is linked to a significant bug discovered shortly after the initial deployment of the update.
Unlocking Issues Prompt Rollout Freeze
Renowned Samsung leaker Ice Universe reported that users in South Korea experienced problems unlocking their devices after installing the update. Although detailed technical information remains scarce, the issue appears to be severe enough to warrant a full halt of the upgrade process. Another well-known source, Tarun Vats, added that the update firmware is no longer available on Samsung’s servers, further confirming the suspension.
Initially, it was believed the bug only affected Galaxy S24 models powered by Samsung’s in-house Exynos 2400 chip. However, further reports indicate that the update was also pulled for devices equipped with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon processor. This suggests that all Galaxy S24 variants, regardless of chipset, have been impacted. Samsung had released different versions of the S24 series in various markets with varying hardware configurations.
Patch Incoming, Rollout to Resume Soon
Users who already installed the update can expect a patch to resolve any existing issues. While Samsung has not issued a formal timeline, it has stated that the rollout will resume soon. Ice Universe predicts that the fixed version of the software could be released as early as April 15, 2025.
The delay is particularly frustrating for Galaxy S24 and foldable device owners, many of whom had already waited an extended period for the Android 15 upgrade. Meanwhile, development of Android 16 is nearing completion, with the final version expected to launch in May 2025.
As Samsung works to resolve the issues and resume the Android 15 rollout, users are advised to stay tuned for official updates and refrain from manually attempting to install any unofficial firmware versions.
